Our Experience from the 3rd Annual CHOC/UCI Health Rare Disease Symposium Family Conference
Melinda Atnip, our dedicated Outreach Program Coordinator and Southern California resident, recently attended CHOC and UCI’s 3rd Annual Rare Disease Symposium and Family Conference. The LIVE event on March 7th, complemented by virtual sessions on the 6th and 8th, served as a dynamic platform for diverse medical, research, and academic professionals to convene.
This symposium attracted an audience of medical professionals, researchers, healthcare industry experts, and individuals eager to delve into the latest advancements in medical research and treatments. Among the esteemed attendees, Melinda had the pleasure of meeting two members of the Histiocyte Society and CHOC pediatricians, Dr. Lilibeth Torno and Dr. Sonia Morales. Both doctors played integral roles in a team of physicians who presented abstracts and posters focusing on HLH transplantation and Histiocytic Sarcoma.
A highlight feature of the event was the participation of undergraduate students, who were guided in creating a medical poster on HLH. This collaboration between seasoned professionals and budding scholars celebrated the symposium’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in rare disease research and advocacy.
Looking ahead, Melinda eagerly anticipates reconnecting with Dr. Lilibeth Torno and her team at CHOC Hospital. Looking ahead, Melinda eagerly anticipates reconnecting with Dr. Lilibeth Torno and her team for the upcoming Histio Patient and Family Regional Education Meeting on Saturday, June 1st.
